How the great pyramids of the Giza Plateau, Egypt, were built was the RIDDLE Of The AGES. Khufu's Pyramid - also known as "The Great Pyramid of Giza" and "The Great Pyramid of Khufu"- is the largest of the three Giza pyramids (Egyptian Pharaoh Khufu, Pharaoh Khafre (also Khaefre, Khafra) and Pharaoh Menkaure (Greek names of Pharaoh Cheops, Pharaoh Chephren (Khephren) and Pharaoh Mycerinus, respectively)) was built about 4,550 years ago, during the 4th Dynasty of the Old Kingdom, using the "primitive" tools, equipment, materials, and technology of its day.

Yet, Khufu's Pyramid stands an incredible 146.7 meters high, 230.29 meters on each side with a footprint of about 13.1 acres. Khufu's Pyramid is built using about 2.3 million stones, most in the 2 - 6 ton range each (some up to 70 tons), occupies 85 - 90 million cubic feet, and weighs about 12.6 billion pounds. Each face of Khufu's Pyramid tilts in at 51.9 degrees and occupies about 5.3 acres. And 100+ feet beneath Khufu's Pyramid, dug from solid bedrock, are structures critical to the building of the Pyramid. Pharaoh Khufu's Pyramid was built by the ancient Egyptians as not only the largest manmade structure on earth at the time, but one of the sturdiest, best planned and most precise structures ever built.

The WILLIAMS's HYDRAULIC THEORY TO CHEOPS's PYRAMID
IS THE ONLY THEORY THAT MAKES REAL SENSE!

(1) Solves all the paradoxes on how such huge solid stones could have been elevated to such great heights, in such great quantities, with such great precision, and at such high speeds to build such a magnificent structure.

(2) Explains and illustrates the function of every known major structure in Pharaoh Khufu's Pyramid as per its critical role in the construction of the Pyramid - the King's Chamber, the "Queen's Chamber," all known passages and air shafts, the Grand Gallery, the Grotto, and the Subterranean Chamber. Until the advent of The WILLIAMS's HYDRAULIC THEORY TO CHEOPS's PYRAMID, many of the Pyramid structures were considered by archaeologists, Egyptologists, and historians (e.g. from the British Museum) to be "mysterious" or relegated to some guessed-at religious, mystical or security function. Includes how the slots in the Antechamber, the slots in the Grand Gallery, and the coffer or sarcophagus in the King's Chamber probably functioned as critical components of the WHTCP.

(3) Explains and illustrates the critical hydraulic importance of the relative juxtapositions of each of these major structures in (2) to each other and to the Pyramid itself in the construction of the Pyramid.

(4) Describes the WHTCP comprehensively and in detail, the same methods which could have also been used in the construction of other ancient pyramids (e.g. Pharaoh Sneferu's (Pharaoh Khufu's father) Bent and North Pyramids), monuments and temples, and in the raising of great stone obelisks, columns and pillars. And how this system was probably additionally used as a forced air system to continuously pump fresh air into the inside of the Pyramid during its construction phase.

(5) How some but relatively little actual lifting was required and done by using ramps and levers.

The WHTCP is not a Ramp Theory (the currently most popular theory, including by such highly esteemed pyramid experts such as Dr. Zahi Hawass and Dr. Mark Lehner), or a Concrete Theory, or an Accretion Theory, or any of the numerous space alien/Atlantean/antediluvian/vanished or lost advanced civilization theories. And it is far more likely than the equally asinine Kite Theory (Ancient Egypt was known as "The Great Hydraulic Civilization" - not "The Great Wind Power Civilization"). And it is not based on miracles; supernatural or paranormal powers of any kind; cranes; anything that hovers; anything run by electricity, fossil fuels or nuclear power; by steam, wind or solar power; barges, rafts or ships (other than those which were used to deliver the stone blocks to the Pyramid worksite); Panama Canal-type locks, or flooding; antigravity machines or gravitational warp or fluctuations of any kind; time machines; compressed air; slave labor; a 100,000 workforce as described by Herodotus (but by 5,000 - 20,000 full-time onsite and well-compensated workers); or giant or gorilla-strength workers. NOTE: I am NOT saying that space aliens, UFOs, and advanced lost civilizations did/do not exist, only that as long as there is a reasonable human explanation, it is unlikely that space aliens or advanced lost societies would have been at least substantially involved without at least leaving some kind of otherwise inexplicable hard evidence that they were involved (e.g. The Nazca Lines of Peru (Peruvian Andes) have no apparent satisfactory human-only explanation). The pyramids of Ancient Egypt were indeed built by a lost advanced civilization - ANCIENT EGYPT!

Nor is the WHTCP a version or re-work of Kunkel's Theory. Kunkel (a fine Hydraulics Engineer) apparently believed that the Great Pyramid was built by using Panama Canal-type water locks and barges and extensive flooding of The Pyramid, and that its final purpose was as a huge water pump, called, "The Pharaoh's Pump." While I believe that Kunkel correctly theorized (and proved with his calculations and patented working model) that the Grand Gallery was used as a water holding tank for hydraulic work (and that it contains salts deposited by water), the WHTCP states that the Great Pyramid was built using hydraulic methods unrelated to water locks and barges (ala Kunkel's Theory), and that the Great Pyramid's primary intended purpose - if not its only purpose - was to provide the Pharaoh Khufu with the grandest resting place ever known before or since (as apparently what most Egyptologists, Archaeologists and Historians believe).

While most of the Egyptian Pyramid experts today still believe that Khufu's Pyramid was built from the start to the end using giant mile-long ramps, consider that a reasonable ramp (10-degree maximum slope) required to reach to the top of Khufu's Pyramid would have required several times more material (some authorities) than what went into the Pyramid itself - then torn down and dispersed after work completion! However, Williams believes that ramps were used only up to about the floor level of the Queen's Chamber (25th course, no higher than about 71 feet), and then the Williams's Hydraulic Elevator was used above that. There is good evidence that a ramp was used. However, there is no evidence that a ramp of any particular height was used - much less that a gigantic 480+ foot ramp was used. The volume of dirt that would go into such a ramp is EXPONENTIALLY proportional to between the square and the cube of the ramp height (depending on the slope of the sides of the ramp and how its road width changed as it rose in height). Fact is, any dummy can build a giant ramp - but it takes real smarts to build an operational Hydraulic Elevator - the Ancient Egyptians had real smarts. It makes no sense that the Ancient Egyptian engineers (from the greatest hydrological society of its time) would be geniuses in every other aspect of the Great Pyramid except for the most critical and fundamental part - the method of moving the stones to the top course being worked - then choose about the most brain-dead, laborious and inefficient method of using a giant ramp all the way to the top! Give me a break! Call it professional arrogance, inertia, brain calcification, professional political correctness, and/or the fact that John Williams is not an Archaeologist if you will, but Egyptian Pyramid experts still stubbornly refuse to seriously consider any other major theory except dumb and absurd ramp theories (note that while these experts are strangely quiet about Williams's Hydraulic Theory - e.g. after providing a copy to Dr. Zahi Hawass upon his request and repeatedly requesting his comments by email - Williams could not pry even one syllable of opinion from the esteemed Dr. Hawass). Incredible as it may seem that while my Theory is the most technically reasonable of all of the Great Pyramid theories and gives the Ancient Egyptians the greatest credit for their genius, those who know better still stubbornly hang onto various idiotic ramp theories!

Dr. Bob Brier, described as a 'renowned expert of Egyptian mummies and the pyramids', appears to be touting the newest moronic ramp theory. In this spiral ramp theory from a French team, there was not an external spiral ramp, but a 7-degree internal spiral ramp around the periphery. Basically, a peripheral internal spiral ramp is just an external spiral ramp with a useless cover over it, which still required many big wood lifting cranes to cover all the ramp corners, many sleds (plus about 10 log rollers per sled which must be frequently replaced), and far too much time and manpower to possibly move heavy stones to the working level at the breakneck speed they required (3+ stones/minute).

In fact, a spiral ramp is not feasible for these reasons: To maintain a constant 7-degree slope, spiral ramp pitch (ramp sections per vertical feet) must steadily increase as the pyramid increases in height and steadily decreases in crossection (slope of The Great Pyramid is about 51.85 degrees). This means that not only does the length of each ramp section steadily decreases as the apex is approached, but so does both the separation distance and relative horizontal displacement between vertically adjacent ramp sections (internal ramp only), and so does the horizontal separation of opposite ramp sections. This means that a modest 10-ft wide, 8-ft tall 7-degree INTERNAL spiral ramp with its center displaced inwardly about 20-ft from the outside edge of the pyramid would be able to get no closer to The Great Pyramid's apex than about 40 feet before either opposite ramp sections closed in on each other and/or the vertical separations between ramp sections became so thin that they could no longer support the weight of a stone block + sled + crane + workers. For an EXTERNAL 10-ft wide 7-degree ramp with its center 5-ft from the outside edge, the closest distance to the apex is about 30 feet. Even if the Great Pyramid builders increased the ramp slope and decreased ramp dimensions to their practical limits (10-degree ramp slope), the most they would have been able to approach The Great Pyramid apex is about 10 feet closer. So then how were the remaining blocks lifted the last 20-30 vertical feet and The Great Pyramid capped using a spiral ramp of any kind? And then once a sled had reached the top course level and unloaded its block, how would it have been able to get down again without interfering with the steady stream of loaded sleds coming up? Perhaps they just climbed over each other!

This internal spiral ramp theory that Dr. Bob Brier appears to support also states that the Grand Gallery was used as some kind of pully/counterweight system to move heavy stones up the initial straight ramp, but fails to explain how the Grand Gallery could continue to do that once the working level exceeded the Grand Gallery top and it got covered over (the remaining about 80% height of the Great Pyramid), and does not explain the water marks in the Grand Gallery. And the "mysterious notch" along one edge of the Great Pyramid is not evidence of an internal ramp, but was most likely a 270-degree military look-out post. Dr. Bob Brier apparently gives little consideration to the fact that there was little hardwood within 500 miles of the Giza Plateau at that time to make all of these huge cranes, sleds and 1,000s of log rollers. Dr. Bob Brier, in a TV special on how the Great Pyramid of Khufu was built using the French team theory, disclosed an unexplained ground-penetrating radar mapping of the Great Pyramid made by another team to show where this so-called internal spiral ramp existed - this gravity map also clearly shows a slightly off-centered rectangle that corresponds closely to where The Williams's Hydraulic Elevator Shaft existed! There must be something about the Great Pyramid - perhaps some type of curse - which makes even 'renowned Egyptologists' as brain-dead as the Atlantis / space alien Great Pyramid proponents!

While many have come and gone claiming that they have solved the RIDDLE Of The AGES (literally a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma as they say), John Williams, M.S.E.E., has indeed elegantly accomplished this astronomical and history-making discovery in his WHTCP. For the first time ever in the annals of Egyptology and Archaeology how The Great Pyramid of Khufu was constructed is finally revealed and in great detail!

My Khufu Pyramid theory has not been widely professionally evaluated because of professional arrogance among Archaeologists and Egyptologists - they refuse to recognize that someone outside of their cliques could possibly solve The Riddle of The Ages! Some great Egyptologists and Archaeologists spent their entire lifetimes trying to solve Khufu's Pyramid. I solved this entire mystery within a half-hour in late 2000. Yes, I did not "earn" the right to solve Khufu's Pyramid. Nevertheless, I did in fact solve it, and my theory should now be seriously evaluated. When I asked the publisher of a major Archaeological magazine to publish my theory, he refused, claiming that it was, "too controversial." Yet, even the idiotic kite theory was seriously published by National Geographic Magazine and "demonstrated" on science channels because it was proffered by a university professor. The Egyptology community has never been interested in the truth but is a calcified-brain mutual admiration society only interested in credentials, connections, cash and cronism.

If I had been a major Archaeologist, my theory would already have been seriously evaluated and probably now heralded as the most reasonable theory based on the archaeological evidence, which I systematically document in my Great Pyramid book. In fact, I practically begged both New Mexico State University (NMSU) and The University of New Mexico (UNM) to help me build a working model (I am a Disabled Veteran and can't build such a pyramid model myself), and while engineering department heads from both universities told me that my theory is plausible, both have incredibly told me that their engineering schools would not get involved unless they were PAID to get involved! That's how much they both really care about scientific discovery. New Mexico's two biggest universities - the University of New Mexico and New Mexico State University - are apparently so impoverished and/or disinterested in my plausible solution to perhaps the greatest scientific mystery of all times made by a citizen of New Mexico that they won't at least help me build a model unless some private entity pays them to do it! Speaks loudly and clearly about their scientific and engineering credibility. Yet, New Mexico promotes Roswell like it is Coronado's Lost City of Gold!

Years ago, Dr. Zahi Hawass, the chief of Egyptian antiquities, asked me for a copy of my Cheops Pyramid book after I emailed him about it, which I promptly provided Dr. Zahi Hawass. Even after repeated requests, Dr. Zahi Hawass - a major advocate of a ramp theory - to this day refuses to tell me in writing - much less the world - whether my theory is valid or invalid - which Dr. Zahi Hawass could easily do either way in under 12 clear and unambiguous words.

Virtually every week on the science and history channels, they still promote the various moronic ramp theories (straight ramps, external spiral ramps, internal spiral ramps), even though building the Great Pyramid using a ramp(s) is one of the most impractical, labor-intensive, material-intensive and dumb of all possible methods. And frankly, we are, along with others who have contacted us about our pyramid theory, totally fed-up with programs about Roswell, unproven UFOs, Big Foot, the Loch Ness Monster, Crop Circles, Atlantis, and the Bermuda Triangle. Apparently, in the scientific world, it does not matter a whit whether you are right or wrong - only whether or not you are professionally and financially well-connected.

So what exactly is,
"THE WILLIAMS's HYDRAULIC THEORY
TO CHEOPS's PYRAMID"?

BASIC DESCRIPTION OF THE WHTCP: Until the floor of the "Queen's Chamber" was reached at the 25th course, or slightly above it, a version of the Ramp Theory was used to construct the Great Pyramid, as up to about that point, ramps would have been the most practical method (Greek Historian Herodotus wrote that the ramp stood 48 feet high - not 481 feet high!). Much higher than that and the amount of material needed for a ramp of any reasonable incline angle would have greatly increased (at 481 feet, a ramp would have required an estimated 7 times more volume of material than the Khufu's Pyramid itself by some authorities! (I estimated a minimum of 3 times more volume)), requiring some other means of very efficiently and quickly lifting, moving and placing the multi-ton stone blocks literally millions of times.

In the WHTCP, buried inside the Khufu's Pyramid is a straight vertical shaft, now called the Williams's Lift Shaft, which extends almost 600 feet from the Subterranean Chamber (SC) to about the peak of the Great Pyramid (when completed). That part of the Williams's Lift Shaft between about the floor of the "Queen's Chamber" and where the Shaft exits at the top course (or tier) under construction is used to hydraulically-operate an Elevator Platform, in which the stones are loaded onto from a door (at that time) in or very near the "Queen's Chamber." That part of the Shaft below the floor of the "Queen's Chamber" is plumbing that gets the water from the SC to the bottom of the Platform. The loaded platform is then raised, by using one or more water screws or other pumping mechanisms, to the top course of the pyramid. There, the stones are horizontally slid off onto sleds or roller logs, and then simply rolled to where they need to be set, and then pushed into place (an alternative theory of Williams is that the sleds rode up with the Platform and were pushed off the Platform at the top course, the stones staying on the same sled from the quarry to their placement on the top course).

The Grand Gallery served as a huge water tank. The bottom of the Grand Gallery, the top of the ascending passage, the front of the horizontal passage to the "Queen's Chamber," and the well shaft to the SC all converge near the same point. At this convergence point, there was a large water wheel or water-powered windlass (or other water-powered device) which drove spools through an axle (some scientists now believe that Ancient Egyptians (also) employed water wheels to drive huge stone-cutting saws (some with parallel blades for precision cutting of casing stones), yet none of these great saws or their water wheel drives have been found). One spool was on each side of the front area of the horizontal passage to the "Queen's Chamber," and has a rope wrapped around it. The ropes were lowered to the bottom of the ascending passage, and wrapped around the stone(s) (and-or attached to the loaded sleds or skids) to be lifted up this passage (26.3 degrees incline). Water is delivered from the Grand Gallery to the water wheel/windlass system using a valve to control the hydraulic power; the well shaft drains the water back to the SC. The water wheel/windlass turns, thereby turning the spools, thereby wrapping up the ropes with great force, thereby pulling up the stone(s)/sleds/skids until it/they reached the top of the ascending passage and onto the horizontal passage to the Queen's Chamber. Then, manual human/animal pushing and pulling brings it/them into the "Queen's Chamber," where it/they is/are loaded onto the Platform to be raised to the top course under construction.

Note the Williams's Hydraulic Theory theorizes that the Williams's Lift Shaft is intentionally NOT located in the exact center of the Great Pyramid. If it were, it would exit at the apex of the pyramid near completion, thereby interfering with the placement of the pyramid capstone. Instead, it exited a bit over to the side with a relatively small temporary stone bridge connecting it to the pyramid's top courses, so that the top stones, including the capstone, could then be raised and horizontally shoved into place and the final casing stones also installed there, which completed the external work, and then the bridging stones could then be used to fill up the Williams's Lift Shaft to conceal it and to block it off as a possible entry point for thieves.

Furthermore, workers, work animals, supervisors, equipment, tools, materials, supplies, et al, also used the Williams's Hydraulic Elevator to ascend and descend to and from the top course and the "Queen's Chamber," where they then could much more easily go to and from Khufu's Pyramid. The Elevator was also used to quickly remove injured workers and animals, and debris, trash and waste from the top course. It is simply unreasonable to believe that all of these heavy stones plus all of these people, plus all of their animals, equipment, tools, supplies, materials and wastes were manually and some repeatedly hauled up and down some giant ramp in the hot sun many times every day, resulting in tens of millions and probably even hundreds of millions of individual trips and billions of wasted manhours!

Some explanations of how the Great Pyramid was built requires wood - lots of wood - when during the period that the Giza Pyramids were being built, wood was very scarce in that area, especially hardwoods. Wood used as levers, rollers and scaffolds to lift extreme loads quickly wears out, breaks and must be replaced. My hydraulic theory requires little wood. In fact, an hydraulic elevator itself could have been done entirely of stone and mortar.

Some explanations may work if you have a relatively huge workforce and many decades to do the job. However, based on the worker camp excavations in recent years, the work force was "only" 10,000 - 20,000 (many of these skilled craftsmen and not grunt labor), and it took "only" about 20 years to build this astronomical structure. Whatever methods the Ancient Egyptians used had to be fast and efficient (eliminating all inching forward methods), constantly available, repeatable, reliable and controllable (eliminating all wind power/kite and tide methods), and relatively quickly and easily implemented and requiring minimum labor and materials (eliminating all ramp methods, probably practical up to about 50 feet maximum).

Some explanations may work if you limit yourself to 5-ton or less blocks. However, the King's Chamber is roofed with blocks exceeding 60 tons. Hydraulic power in some form must have been used to move these blocks. And if so, it would also have logically been used for lighter blocks. I've done the calculations and have determined that a hydraulic elevator was practical. In fact, the way that the Pyramid corners are staked into the ground and the concavity of the faces - much harder to do than flat faces - implies that the Ancient Egyptians anticipated huge internal pressures - for example, water pressures developed inside an hydraulic elevator used to lift heavy objects up to 481 feet. Just after the pyramid designers blew The Bent Pyramid, they probably over-designed Khufu's Pyramid to make absolutely sure it would not structurally fail because of internal hydraulic pressures.

It's fair to ask, "So what happened to the gear they used relevant to your Hydraulic Elevator theory, such as the water wheel?" My theory is that Pharaoh Khufu did not want his great pyramid copied by other great civilizations of his time, such as Babylonia, so Khufu ordered a great deal of "military secrecy" in the Khufu Pyramid construction. Evidence of this is the total lack of hieroglyphics describing and boasting about the monumental design and construction of The Great Pyramid. More than likely, after completion of Khufu's Pyramid, all of the unique gear that built Khufu's Pyramid was probably ordered to be destroyed, or else used to build Khafre's Pyramid, and then ordered to be destroyed after completion of the Khafre Pyramid (which might account for Menkaure's Pyramid being relatively so small). The water wheels apparently used for precision cutting of the casing stones have also not been found. Digging in the Great Pyramid is strictly limited by the Egyptian Government. However, ultrasonic and microwave techniques have been used that indicate hidden chambers-like structures and other cavities which seem to correspond with The Williams's Hydraulic Theory; see our Cheops's manual for details.

Ancient Egypt is known as, "The Great Hydraulic Civilization." Using hydraulic power would have been an obvious and natural solution to the great geniuses who designed and built these pyramids. Since the Ancient Egyptians clearly had the mathematical genius to understand and implement solid geometry and structural physics, they certainly would have understood and implemented hydraulic lifting mechanisms. While water is not an ideal hydraulic liquid, when you have little concerns about freezing and rusting, water power was more than adequate, and being commonly available, water was ideal for them. In many of the smaller jobs related to pyramid construction, they probably also used steam power.

ANOTHER RIDDLE: How can I get Dr. Zahi Hawass, Josh Bernstein, Peter Weller, Jay Schadler, Dr. Bob Brier, John Seigenthaler, Leonard Nimoy (Dr. Spock"), Sir Arthur C. Clarke or some other fine host of The Discovery Channel, National Geographic Channel, TLC Network, The History Channel or similar television channel or science program to consider this as an exciting and intriguing topic to investigate for its viewers? Can anybody out there help? Any free advice?

The WILLIAMS’s LIFT SHAFT (“Shaft”): The purpose of the Shaft would be to relatively quickly and easily hydraulically lift stones to the top course, to move workers, work animals, supervisors, equipment, tools, and materials to and from worksites, and to remove injured and ill workers, and debris and trash from worksites. And possibly to pump air throughout the Great Pyramid. Large pyramid shafts were used in other pyramids (all of their uses may still be unknown): (A) Pharaoh Djoser’s Step Pyramid (7m x 7m x 28m high), and (B) Pharaoh Djedefre's Pyramid (Pharaoh Khufu’s son, 10m x 23m x 20m high). Also note that Central American pyramids have a square vertical shaft from bottom to top, so perhaps the same hydraulic elevator construction method was used.
